This is my real world problem. I needed to find out how tall of a ladder I needed to be able to fix an electric pole. I knew already that the pole was 10ft. tall, and that the space under it that was far enough away to put a ladder was 6ft. Know those two measurements, I could figure out how tall I needed the ladder to be. I ended up needing an 11 1/2 tall ladder. (11ft 6in).
Parent Problem
I had my Dad find the length of the hypotenuse. I had to do it over the phone so I gave him the problem and he wrote it down and told me the steps he was taking so I could write it down for this. He did it right because he designs pool covers for his job so the Pythagorean Theorem is part of his everyday life.
Reflection
I don't really like geometry, but the Pythagorean Theorem was a pretty easy thing to grasp. I might have had some trouble towards the beginning, but now I understand it. It's not hard, and is definitely useful in real life and I know I will eventually use it, and will be glad I learned it.
